"Do What You Love" it's a Privilege Not Everyone Can Afford

Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life” it sounds beautiful, and for some, it’s true.

But for people from lower-income backgrounds, without a house, and who need to become financially independent first, that quote feels out of touch.

If you’re born with a house already provided, some savings, and your basic needs taken care of, then yes, maybe you can afford to pursue your passions freely.

For everyone else, until you’ve paid off your housing, built up savings, and reached financial stability, the reality is more like:
“Do a job that pays well and learn to like it enough.” Or at least, “Tolerate it while it funds your survival and future.”

That’s why I believe people in difficult financial situations should focus on income-generating work, and still carve out a bit of time each day for hobbies and passion projects.

Maybe after 15–20 years of financial discipline, you can reduce your workload and finally dive deeper into what you love.

Or maybe the key is learning to find meaning or enjoyment even in work that isn’t your ideal, because it gives you what you need most: stability and freedom later on.
